Clubs

Clubs are a chance for our young carers to get together and take a break from caring responsibilities. The clubs provide respite, fun and another opportunity  to connect with the MSYC team.

The ages and venues are as follows:

Mole Valley (8–12 yrs old):  St Michaels Church, The Marld, Ashtead
Epsom & Ewell (8–12 yrs old): The United Reform Church Hall, Ewell
The Teens (12–14 yrs old): Ashtead Youth Club, Barnett Wood Lane, Ashtead
The Seniors (14-18yrs old): Ashtead Youth Club, Barnett Wood Lane, Ashtead

See our Club Venues page for a map of directions.

All clubs meet monthly and are designed to suit all tastes!

The Art and Crafts area is often where  the young people go to use the opportunity to sit and be creative and get some more individual attention from Staff and Volunteers. We run Group activites within the main hall which includes parachute games, football, basketball, indoor hockey, dance, gymnastics and team games. Additionally, clubs offer pool, table tennis, Nintendo Wii, play-station and numerous board games.

The clubs offer a wide range of leisure and social activities to young people who may not be able to access them otherwise. These groups also provide an important place for young carers to meet, share experiences and gain support from their peer group. One of the key benefits to the project is the opportunity for the mutual support young carers provide for each other. Many have made strong links, and friendships remain long after they have moved on from the project.

Clubs are well attended and give us a chance to see the same faces each month and catch up on what is happening within the families we support. Our club sessions are not therapeutic in a formal sense, but we do aim to provide a relaxed and safe environment where issues relevant to the carers can be raised informally and support provided.
