Aims & Objectives
MSYC aims to support the young carers in the following ways:
- Raising awareness of the existence and needs of young carers in Mid Surrey and identifying them.
- Helping the family to find the support they need, and are entitled to, from local services, so that a child’s caring responsibilities can be reduced.
- Offering flexible support for young carers and their families, according to their individual needs.
- Promoting the views of young carers and enabling them to influence the development of the project.
- Providing access to information and services relevant to young carers and advocacy on their behalf when required.
- Enabling young carers to lead a normal social, educational and emotional life.
- Supporting young carers to use local services such as sports clubs, youth groups, support groups, and health centres. Individual grants and donations make these possible.
- Providing advice and emotional support through one to one sessions
- Liaising with schools so that teachers can better support their students and provide a schools service. This works within primary and secondary schools providing input in assemblies, PSHE lessons, teacher training, individual and group session with other young carers.
- Providing opportunities for young carers to take a break from their caring responsibilities, spend time with other young carers and share experiences
- Providing opportunities for young carers to learn more about their parent or family member’s illness or disability.
